What's the word on steelhead fishing on the mad ! I'm going up on 2/4/10 and I want to hear if it is worth the trip. It should be nice after all the rain we got. So if you have any info it would be great to hear back from any steelhead crazy fisherman like me. Thanks the RUDEDUDE

Mix of Fresh and not so fresh steelies. A lot of anglers right at the hatchery in the morning and disperse after "the bite" is off. Did see a number of fish take roe throughout the day felt lucky to hook a few and land one hatchery 9lb hen

Water Condition: SlightlyOff     Weather: Raining    Fishing Method:Bait
Comments:
Landed 3 hatchery bucks today and lost 3 fish shortly after hooking. Fishing was definitely slower today and I will not be returning to the river until we get a little more rain. 2 of the fish were on the darker side and one was very fresh. All were big fish, 10+, the largest was 14.5lbs. The only fish I saw were the ones i caught. A lot of people on the river...Good luck!I think fresh ghost shrimp made all the difference.

Believe what you want, there are a few steelies in there. Not many fresh ones. Be willing to move around on the river and stick to it. 1 for 3 for the past 3 days. Please handle the native fish with care upon landing and if you are not sure if its native or a hatchery fish release it!

Jed Smith Gage reads 470 cfs at midnight on the 5th, then rises to 3,050 cfs at 1: 15 on the 6th. Should be the deal maker for all boats. I will try plugs from a power boat downstream of the Hwy. 101 bridge. (first time for everything...). Will be interesting to see what happens.

Smith River Zoo! Imagine the first day of fishable flows on a Saturday. Many did well, some were frustrated - I didn't even put in, waaayyyy too many boats to be of interest to me, I can wait. Heard Sunday was a bloodfest upstream of the 101.

I am new to this and went to watch what is going on. I went out yesterday just before sunset near Ferndale exit. Some fish were jumping in front of me on the opposite side of the river. Not sure if I am allowed to fish here.

It's a shame no one updates the reports on here. If people were actually using this site, i would tell you all exactly where and how i hooked into 4 20-30lbs Salmon recently... but, seeing as how nobody want to share... screw ya! and, good luck with the fishin, I hope to see you out there, cheers.

I just spent the weekend in Humboldt and along the Eel. I used to live there, and was quite surprised by the algae growth. Can anyone point me to information on the water quality issues facing this river? thanks!

Fished the Klamath at Blakes last evening. No bites, but saw half pounders jumping. Water was pretty warm. Early morning is probably the best time to go.
